Effects £24,187 12s 10d.

Written 12 Nov 1929, Proved 24 May 1941 at Llandudno.
Executors: Nellie Adelaide Smythson, Henry Pumfrey (lawyer), Herbert Arthur Cox (accountant).
Mrs Mary Smythson, my dear aunt with my love and the recollection of all she did for me and my little sister in our earliest days - my antique mahogany card table & cellarette.
Richard Oram, my dear doctor who by his cheerfulness and great skill has materially helped me to succeed - £100, with which to buy cigars.
Everything else to Nellie Adelaide Smythson, my dear wife (who I trust will not marry again) to whose devotion patience inspiration untiring labours and loving care I owe so much with all my heart and all my love I pay this last tribute to her sterling wealth.
A list attached (no existing copy) of friends & family whose love and cheerful friendship and willing assistance has helped to make my private life happier and my business career more successful - small gifts of rememberance to be made to them by my wife.
Smythsons; arrangements already made for the continuation of the company and Nellie's position therein.
On Nellie's death he would wish her to direct her executors to voluntarily wind up the company and use the proceeds to' found a home (to be called the Smythson Home) for homeless or maimed horses dogs and cats of whom we are both so fond' but the proceeds should not be given to a society already established for such a purpose.
Nellie to arrange continued upkeep of the two Smythson graves in Brompton Cemetery, Dollman family grave & Hards grave in Brompton and the Bridges graves in Bath & Chiswick, in continuation of the wishes of my uncle Frank.
He to be buried in some quiet spot where he & Nellie can be buried together, where she thinks is right, she knowing his wishes in that matter.

He is described in his own will as managing director of Frank Smythson Ltd.
The address he gave as executor of his father's will in 1921 is 60 New Bond Street, the offices & shop of Frank Smythson Ltd.
His widow passed on the portrait, of who she thought was Marcus Alfred Smythson (my husband's grandfather) but was in fact her husband's great grandfather John Salway, to Heather Smythson in her will and asked for the Smythson graves to be maintained, probably because Heather's parents Sydney & Maud were the last Smythsons to be interred there.

She was a member of the Ladies Music Hall Guild, from where she knew the Crippens, Cora Crippen being a member under her stage name of Belle Elmore.
"Mrs. LOUISE SMTTHSON, examined by Mr. TRAVEBS HUMPHREYS I live at
38 Plaistow Road, Brixton Hill. I knew Mr. and Mrs. Crippen for
about fifteen months I should think. I am a member of the committee
of the Music Hall Ladies' Guild. I attended a meeting of the committee
on Wednesday, 26th January. Mrs. Crippen was present and seemed
to be in her perfect health and spirits. I attended the dinner and ball

She was wearing a brooch similar to exhibit 1 1 . "

248 Chabot website has the following:
He was sent to England when a child of about 7 years of age in the year 1685 or 1686, said to have been conveyed out of France concealed in a basket. He was reared in the household of the Duke of Bolton. He became a Barber-Surgeon. In the Indenture of his son John to a joiner, dated 6 November 1722 he is described as a Surgeon.
His emigration will have followed the Edict of Nante being revoked forcing them as Hugenots to esape from the Catholics.

Email from Mariam has the following:
"Yes, on the Jacques Chabot entry which you kindly sent to me , I find that who was sent to England in a basket I have not found out at all. However, the Jacques Chabot who was a Surgeon was Jacques Chabot, David and George and John`s father, who died in
England and was buried in St. Giles in the Fields 1712, and it was his son John who was the apprentice, which I sent him, but did not go through with it. By the way Jacques changed his name to James. By the way Jacques now James came down through Scotland to England.
It was James Chabot married Mary Lacy in 1693,[ but he was a widower at the time of this marriage], St James Dukes Place Middlesex, as you know St.James Dukes is a Clandestine Church, as well as Fleet Street Prison where James Chabot married Mary Walker in 1733.
James and Mary Chabot , nee Lacy, had three boys their names are -
1. James Chabot, born 1702,
2. Philip Chabot 1704 or 5,
3. John Chabot.not sure of this one.

James and Mary Chabot , nee Walker, and her sons are [ I`ll only do two]
1. James Chabot
2. Philip James Chabot.
By the way a Margaret A. Whyllie wrote a book about our Chabots and De Rohan-Chabots and it is in the Huguenot
Library. Unfortunately we do not have it here in Sydney, but I would love to see or hear where she left off.
By the way I have joined the Huguenot society here in Sydney.

I hope you got the will of James Chabot who died in 1712
He states that he had George Chabot, David, and John, left a good deal of money to George and David, nothing to John
because he did not approve of his wife, and nothing to James his Grandson.
James and his wife was living in Paris in 1712, when his grandfather died."

"My link is via Emily Mary Chabot 1792-1817, (married Thomas Henry Pitcher), who died very soon after giving birth (in Nova Scotia), to Sarah Pitcher. Sarah's brother, Charles Chabot Pitcher, had either previously been left in England, or returned later, had a daughter Eliza,b1838 who married my gt grandfather, Joseph Woodward. His son, my grandfather, is shown as Frank Joseph Chabot Woodward, his daughter, (my aunt), is shown as Margarite Valois C Woodward. It is suspected that the initial C stands for Chabot. I am the last surviving Woodward,.
Back to Emily Mary Chabot, she was the daughter of James Chabot 1765, the son of James Chabot 1702 where you link up.

Re Jacques Chabot, I was recently given this:
>The Chabot name is found around 1040. The head of the house in France in 1903 was the Duke DeRohan Chabot. The original ancestor was sent over to England from France in 1685 in a hamper concealed to escape from the Catholics. (Edict of Nantes) He was brought up in the family of the Duke of Belton. The Duke died in 1698. Young Chabot married and lived at High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, England.<

The above is only an extract, written in 1903 by my great x2 uncle, Henry Purcell Pitcher. It confirms the report in the Dutch list, but omits the Christian name! it goes on the mention that James Chabot was buried (1839) in the 'family vault' In Lambeth Palace burial ground. This would have belonged to St Mary's adjoining the palace but was closed some time before! An overflow burial ground was across the road off Lambeth High St. Again, long since closed and now a recreation park. When he mentions the 'Edict of Nante' he means when it was revoked in 1685."

Another email from Mariam has the following:
"In 1709 James Chabot , this one is Thibaud`s, he became Nationalized, he was a Merchant.I also found a James
Chabaud who at the age of 17 came to England in 1685/6, he fits in to our Chabot
who arrived in a basket. I know that Chabaud is not spelt like we spell Chabot, but that is ok. Our James had Denizations taken out in 1694, because he married an English girl.
Also when I found that our James was married in 1693 to Mary lacy, and I told Thiobaud, there were 2 Chabot`s at the same time, in London, ours was the younger one."
Chabot, Jacques (I752)
