  1861 census aged 13 with family 1871 census aged 23 comdien born Grantham with husband Peter R James also a comedian,  daughter Mande A aged 2 and son Henry M aged 12 weeks, in Carlisle. She is mentioned in J P Wearings theatrical biography list. 'Smythson, Miss Montague ( Amelia Jane James; Mrs P R James [d 1891]) actress, Era Almanack & annual 1892'- my guess is this would be a obituary. The Era, advertisements 1868 & 1873 for themselves as P R James (First Heavies or First old Men) and Miss Amy Smythson or Miss Montague Smythson (second chambermaids). The Era MagazineSat 23 May 1891 (findmypast): 'Died on Monday, April 6th 1891, Amelia Jane James (nee Montague Smythson), the dearly beloved wife of P R James.
